EDUCATION SUPPORT
Education is the key to transforming the lives of poor children and adolescents. Through it, they can get bright futures with decent work, better health, and a good income. In Uganda, more children are now enrolled in pre-primary, primary, and secondary education but still, there are many children out of school, especially in the poor rural areas and many that join school dropout.
Why are many children still out of school?
Here are some of the reasons why:
• Some rural areas do not have schools.
• The poor families can’t afford to take their children to school
• They earn a living for their families instead of going to school
• Communities with harmful gender norms refuse girls from going to school.
In rural communities, more than 10% of the girls are married off before they reach the age of 18. This means the end of their education and most children with disabilities lack the support they need to go to school and the Orphans are often left without the resources they need to go to school
In Africa, particularly Uganda, the quality of education is not good enough in public schools with lack toilets, adequate learning materials, well-trained teachers, and standard classrooms and most of the disadvantaged children from poor families study from public schools making them not attain good quality education as in compared to children from average and rich families who can afford to school from private universities with good quality of education. On addition, of children who go to school, few of them enjoy their lessons and actually learn. This is because they go to school hungry, sick, or exhausted from work, or household tasks and as a result, many children fail to reach the smallest skill levels in reading and mathematics which reduces their potential to have successful future.
How we can help
1. Building schools
The rural and remote areas of Uganda have no schools and a few communities with schools, children walk long distances in order to access the schools.
One of our future objectives is to be able to construct at least two standard primary and secondary schools in every village such that the children from the poor backgrounds that cannot afford the huge tuition fees in private schools can access high quality education at a completely free cost. Also, to b able rehabilitate the already available school infrastructures and equip them with standard classrooms and teaching facilities.
2. Providing school materials to the most vulnerable children
We hope to increase on the number of children supported by Ishak community organization but we always limited by the funding. We provide scholastic materials such as school uniforms, shoes, school bags, books, pens, pencils, sanitary pads, etc. to all the children supported by the organization.
We also plan of supporting the families of all children supported by the organization with some household items such as mosquito nets, toothpaste, and soap. This puts them in a better position to take their children to school and provide a conducive environment for children when they come back from school.
3 Providing food to school-going children
Hunger is a problem for school-going kids from vulnerable families and it hurts their progress in school.
So, we plan on providing them with a daily meal ranging from breakfast, lunch and this makes their life in school easier and better.
